Victorian Jet Necklace & Locket

Whitby Jet necklace & locket; Victorian, Irish.  Whitby jet was popularized by Queen Victoria who used the material as part of her mourning attire after the death of her husband, Prince Albert.  It is made from brown coal or fossilized wood & highly collectible today.  The locket has a lovely scallop shell design.
